Hamdard Diversifies its Business into Milk-Based
Beverages & Fusion Drinks with Neologic Engineers

About Hamdard

Hamdard Laboratories, an esteemed institution in India, has a legacy that stretches back to 1906. With a legacy of over 118 years, Hamdard stands to its words, a companion in pain and a sympathizer in suffering. Hamdard began as a small Unani clinic and evolved into a comprehensive production house by 1920.

Hamdard, known for its iconic product RoohAfza, dominates the market with almost 50% share in its category across India and the subcontinent. With a strong market presence, Hamdard sought to innovate further by introducing milk-based beverages and fusion drinks at their Aurangabad plant, which traditionally only manufactured RoohAfza and spice mixes.

Challenges Hamdard faced

Hamdard Laboratories desire to expand the same plant for new product lines was one of the challenges. To set up a new division in the same plant, the new product lines of milkshakes, fusion drinks, and fermented products had to be space-efficient. Their plant required a setup of new product lines that would ensure scalability and be cost-effective.

To meet the project requirements and introduce new products, Hamdard joined hands with Neologic Engineers to scale up their plant in Aurangabad. Here's how Neologic Engineer's expertise and strategic solutions helped Hamdard expand its market presence while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

Solutions Provided by Neologic Engineers

Based on Hamdard's standardized recipes and required production capacities, Neologic Engineers provided the following equipment and support:

  • Milk Reception & Tanker Unloading Area Setup: Efficient and hygienic unloading of milk from tankers.
  • Pasteurizer & Homogenizer: Ensuring the milk is safe for consumption and uniformly mixed.
  • Reconstituting Milk Station: Reconstituting milk powder into liquid form as required.
  • Dry Blenders: Mixing dry ingredients with liquid to create consistent blends.
  • Juice Blending Station: Facilitating the integration of RoohAfza and other flavors into milk-based drinks.
  • UHT Sterilizer (4,000-6,000 Liters/Hour): Ultra-high temperature processing to extend shelf life without preservatives.
  • Aseptic Storage: Ensuring sterile storage conditions for processed beverages.

Key Features of the Equipment

The team at Neologic developed equipment that could meet their production and product requirements that are:

  • 100% drainable and easy to clean.
  • Adaptable for multiple product variants on a single processing line.
  • Meet the global design, engineering, and manufacturing standards for Aseptic Processing for the low acid products.
  • Designed for high efficiency and low maintenance.

Challenges Faced During Installation and Commissioning

Neologic Engineers faced challenges while developing machinery based solely on product recipe requirements rather than machinery specifications. Other than this, Neologic Engineers faced the following challenges:

  • Utility Coordination: Collaborating closely with Hamdard to ensure the setup met their utility requirements.
  • Stringent Timelines: Meeting tight deadlines for commercial product trials.
  • Space Constraints: Efficiently using the defined area to set up high-capacity equipment.

Result

Hamdard Laboratories most renowned brand RoohAfza has been an evergreen part of every household since the 90s and has gained the title ‘The Drink of India’. Hamdard believes in innovation and upgradation, for which their research and development team is always on a quest to introduce something new in the market.

After thorough research, Hamdard planned to expand into new segments: milk-based beverages and fusion drinks. To continue their growth trajectory and introduce new products, Hamdard joined hands with Neologic Engineers to scale up their plant in Aurangabad.

The experienced team at Neologic Engineers successfully met Hamdard's strict deadlines, capacity requirements, and optimal utilization of available space, all while delivering the plant on schedule.

Upon handing over the plant to Hamdard, they conducted a product trial. In the first production batch test, Neologic’s equipment successfully delivered the desired results.

Testimonial

“We wanted to expand our business into the milk-based beverages and fusion drinks line. We only had information about the product requirements but lacked machinery-based information. The team at Neologic Engineers, with just product information, helped set up an entire plant. Other companies suggested having multiple lines for multiple products, but Neologic Engineers suggested doing it all in a single processing line. It ultimately saved us on resources. This innovative approach resulted in simplified operations and cost savings on labor and infrastructure.”
